FAQ: NeuroMuscular Reprogramming (NMR)
NeuroMuscular Reprogramming (NMR) is a highly effective and very efficient technique to deal with acute as well as with chronic pain, whether from exercising or from just regular activities, e.g. sitting at your desk all day, doing a lot of computer work. NMR is an active and interactive form of bodywork intended to address imbalances in the body’s musculature that are the source of most body discomfort and pain. NMR uses muscle testing in combination with advanced bodywork techniques to release tight muscles and reprogram the motor control center in the brain to use the muscles more efficiently using the best possible postural and functional alignment.
NMR is incorporated into a regular massage session as a most effective assessment tool to make the bodywork the most beneficial to your specific issues.
How does it work?
Muscular imbalances are found by using muscle testing that focuses on responsiveness rather than strength or endurance. Any "failure" creates consciousness of this dysfunction and cues the brain for new learning (re-education). This failure can be caused by the same muscle, its antagonists or its synergists not working effectively and thus impeding it from contracting and releasing when it should. I use a variety of modalities to release those over-working muscles, e.g. Swedish massage, deep tissue techniques, myofascial release work etc. After correcting the imbalance by releasing these muscles, the muscle test is repeated and a "success" signal is sent to the motor control center.
The technique is so powerful because it supports your body in healing itself and integrating changes actively by involving you via the muscle testing. It’s not me doing something to the body, but rather me enabling your working with your body. The results are longer lasting.
An immediate reduction of the symptoms you came in with can not be expected; however, significant progress in the desirable direction will be made. Since the work is interactive, you will experience yourself the changes in your body and its capabilities and range of motion throughout the session. Experiencing NMR can help you understand your own body patterns, which is empowering. Educating you about your body is very important to me to help you become and then stay pain-free.
